Friday Illustration Class - Illustration Proposals

Back to blogging again, this is following up with the Sight Concept research and since the last post have expanded the concept further up to the point that I got something to go with, here is what I'm going with:

Concept

The key concepts of the message I conveying is Sight and Perspective, the concept of Sight is further explained on my Blog. Perspective came about through random occurance, furthermore the concept of my disability (more specifically that I have Autism) and how I see the world through my perspective, which is literately what the second part of the concept.

Research

Much of my initial research was through Illustrator Friday and Pinterest (which the former can be found on my blog); furthermore I’ve being looking at sites such as United Colours of Benneton’s Unhate Campaign (http://unhate.benetton.com) and Amaze (http://www.amaze.org.au) a Autism advocate site in Victoria as starting points for the creation of the Illustrations.

Message

The message that I want to convey is that rather than be judgemental, I want people to see through the perspective of a person with Autism, who want to achieve their goals, hopes and dreams whilst at the same time, attempting to overcome the obstacles, whatever it is, that could be in my way. And for anyone who see my artwork to see people with Autism from a whole new perspective. Though what I’m doing is personal, I do however intend to convey this message through visual means, which I will explain in my proposal.

Proposal

My first illustration that I propose to do is of a cityscape in the background with obstacles in the form of rocks in its way. The purpose of this illustration is that my goal is to find work in either Melbourne or Canberra and there are obstacles that could be in my way in achieving this goal. The approach to this illustration is through the use of composition of photography and physical materials, such as rocks and dirt.

My second illustration that I propose is a photocomposition that I intend to output through print making, the composition that I intend to do is get a close up shot of my eyes and merge them in an image of a lake or beach. The idea is to show that I want to achieve my goals, which is at the other side, with the lake or the ocean as an obstacle.

My third illustration that I propose is an analogue illustration depicting a set of eyes in a box, depicting a person trapped in a box, the message that we see the person trapped in that box (hence the sight concept) and try to see the problems of autism from that person’s perspective.

My fourth illustration that I propose, though a rough idea as I’m writing this at the moment, is an analogue illustration of the close up showing both my eyes, and within the eyes show the words: Overcoming obstacles, Stigma, Taboo, Hopes and Dreams, Goals and Achievements, these words associating my struggles that I do face with my disabilities.
