High Definition Composite with Group Effort

We had to create a HD Composite like what I did with the Circus Composite, only difference is that everyone in Graphics Design had to contribute. Here is the result from the group effort:

I initially started off with the fuel drums in what looks like an industrial setting, since then various images have being added and the result is something that comes out a first person shooter.

Circus Composite

After a few days of tedious and rather painstaking work, I've finally finished my Circus HD Composite. This is the result:

All that's left at the moment is the 'Spot the Difference' which I hope to upload by the end of the weekend (Assuming nothing comes up between now and then)

Fruity Redux

Since now that my Internet Download Quota has being reset, I figured that I should upload the 'Fruity' Image (I've called it Fruity Redux, as I've done something simliar to this a few years back), anyway here it is:

I've should of uploaded this earlier, but that's what happens when you recklessly download things and get 'shaped'

Creating a Music Poster - Result

Greetings visitors and fellow bloggers

After finding some ideas and going through various sketches, this is what I came up with for my music poster:

The Music Poster was done through the combined use of Photoshop (for fonts and overall layout of the poster) and Illustrator (which I've used to create the Cassette Tapes with the use of various techniques - well sort of).

Probably the hardest thing that I had to design was the Cassette Tape, so I decided to use Adobe Illustrator for that and then export the Cassette Tape Designs as a JPEG and have the Tapes as some sort of surface for my poster. After importing the tape design to photoshop, I've went on placing the writing (in which I've used the Arial and Impact Fonts) on the surface. After a few hours later in creating the poster, this is my result.

By all means, feel free to comment on the poster.

Creating a Music Poster (Part 2 - Research)

After rummaging through the internet for promotional music posters and in some cases, random images, i've managed to find some ideas on what elements to use for my poster:

Poster 1 - New Riot Poster

I went this one, mainly not only was a decent one but also because I simply like the font style in the poster and thought I play around with this sort of font and see how it goes. Not to mention that the poster isn't clustered or otherwise complicated. But as I looked, I ended up finding a few random images that caught my eye whilst finding the posters, as you can see below:

I came across this 'old-school' Cassette Tape (this image was sourced from this website) and what looked like the album cover for Korn (which can be found here) and I though to myself, 'I could use something like this for the poster'.

Well, that is some of my research done on the Music Poster

Creating a Music Poster (Part 1 - Overview)

Today we were given a task, and that task was to create a Poster promoting a live music concert called 'The Noise'. This is the information that the poster had to have:

"The Noise" Music Festival
July 19th to 20th 2011

Festival will be showcasing various bands, including:
- Guns 'N' Roses
- Metallica
- Daft Punk
- Pink
- Trocadaro
- Dead Mouse
- Bliss and Eso
- Disturbed

Music Bowl, Botanic Gardens, Wagga Wagga
Tickets available from Ticketek for $145
Ages 15 and up
More info at www.thenoise.com

This may sound easy, but there are principles set for us to follow for this to work, this includes:

1. Research
2. Planning
3. Execution
4. Evaluation

In addition to this, the poster has to be at 800 pixels wide by 1000 pixels high at 72 ppi (RGB)

Principles and Elements of Design (14th Feb 2011)

Today we've being told to find 3 Ads that cover the following topics and explain why that these ads fits into these categories:

- Unity

- Variety

- Hierarchy

- Dominance

Ad 1: Suisse Mocha Ad (General Foods International Coffees circa. 1986)

First of all, there is unity in this ad as there are common elements that advertise for coffee (such as the Cup of Coffee and the Morning Paper), second of all there is variety for this ad, this being from the assorted coffee products available to that typical table setup you expect to have every morning. Thirdly, there is that established order of the visual elements (hierarchy) in this ad, and from most significance to least significance, this includes:

- The Cup of Coffee

- The 'How to Civilise 7am' Text (This would be the central axis point of the ad)

- The Morning Newspaper

- The Coffee Powder (one saying 'Suisse Mocha')

- The Assorted Coffee Powder

The last significant element of this ad is Dominance, and that can be seen with the Cup of Coffee in the ad.

Ad 2: Tuf-Neck BMX Parts and Accessories

The unity element in this ad is to show to customers how tough their products are whilst in the variety elements of this ad is the type of products that are available to customers as well as the colours and typography used in the ad. There is that established order (or the hierarchy) in the ad, and this includes (the most significant to the least significant):

- The Tiger

- The Tag-Line used for the Ad (Tuf-Neck sinks it's teeth into BMX)

- The Tuf-Neck Logo

- The Tuf-Neck Products (such as it's Alloy Chainrings and Seat Post)

- The Writing

Lastly there is that dominance element to the ad and this being the Tiger with it's 'In your face' look

Ad 3: VW Beetle Ad (for USA)

If there is something in common with this ad (the unity aspect that is), is that there are many cars out on the market that can go through so much fuel. Second of all there are cars out there that can save on fuel (whether that's a myth or not I'm not sure on), even though the ad does in some way show a lack of variety of available cars out on the market, but does show the variety of cars in that ad that waste fuel.

There is an arranged order in that ad, but it's mainly that the amount of cars at the service station that dominates the ad whilst the VW Beetle is right at the bottom of the ad. There is a dominant message to this ad is that there are fuel-saving alternative cars out there, the use of black and white colours (or shades) is what also dominates this ad as it tries to paint a grim picture of the reality of motoring.

Principles and Elements of Design

Throughout the first week of Certificate IV Graphics Design, we've being asked to provide answers to questions in regards to the principles and elements of design based on the notes provided to us. These are my findings:

What are the primary principles of design?

Design as you know isn't about art, it's also about it's function and purpose that can potentially (or will) affect the design as a whole, this can include the following:

- Unity - A key principle that is served by all other principles (or put simply, for all elements of design to combine and unite as one)

- Variety - Having more than one elements of design (sometimes can be known as diversity)

- Hierarchy - An established order given to visual elements of design

- Dominance - Prevailing Influence of one element over another (for one element to dominate all)

- Proportion - Size of relationships within a composition

- Balance - To even out visual elements of the design

Find logos for five popular companies and how it relates to primary principles in design

(Side Note: Finding logos for five companies that relates to primary principles is I must say at times - bloody hard!)

Logo 1 - Lamborghini

With reference to principles of design Unity, Hierarchy and Dominance is what comes to mind with this company. In their products, Unity and Hierarchy is about the making visual standards on their products. The badge, shown above is about showing off those visual standards used by the company, not only does it have to look good, but it needs to get people talking. Dominance is another aspect of design (as shown by the bull in the logo), it shows that it has to be the best in the market and it has to dominate all.

Logo 2 - Cadbury

On the grounds of primary principles in design, the 'well-known' Cadbury Logo (well-known to chocolate lovers, that is) is all about balance and proportion and possibly the lack of variety. There is the visual relationship between the colour purple and the typeface used for the logo whilst at the same time it creates visual interest of the brand (which makes the brand easily identifiable to individuals) by not being too ambitious and not too boring at the same time.

Logo 3 - Apple

For purposes of the primary principles of design, the Apple Logo works on both balance and proportion. Firstly, the Apple Logo is balanced between simplicity (meaning that the logo isn't too complex and easily recognisable to individuals) and function (that of identifying the line of computers and electronic products in which apple produces) while second of all, there is a relationship between the logo and the computers/electronic products as a way of identifying itself.

Logo 4 - BP

Love 'em or Hate 'em. BP is one oil and energy company that is instantly recognisable by individuals whether it's fill their car up with fuel or whether you're protesting about the use of oil. However, on the grounds of design of the logo, it's design is well balanced (with the logo on what appears to be symmetrically balance) simple and it's variety and proportion (such as the use of colours and how it relates to the company) makes this company easily identifiable to individuals.

Logo 5 - Qantas

Qantas as you know, is Australia's main airline but also, we can identify it being australian with the kangaroo, regarded as our national icon. Where it fits for the purposes of identifying the primary principles of design, it's all about proportion and unity. There is a relationship between our national icon (the kangaroo) and our nation's pride, thus creating this Unity in which shares a common theme, our national identity to the world.

What are the difference between symmetric and asymmetric balance?

For the purposes of graphics design, symmetric balance is about the arrangement visual elements being identical on either side of the central axis (this can be known as a mirrored image).

Asymmetrical balance however, is the complete opposite, it is about the art of creating balance using uneven visual elements (sometimes referred to as dynamic symmetry).

But what these two have in common is how it distributes visual elements in a composition (or visual balance)

Describe the Golden Triangle and what it's use is

The Golden Triangle is a system that is based on ratios to describe and measure out the relationship between the outer dimensions and internal divisions and alignments of designs. This was first used by the Greeks to determine and measure out the physical dimensions and internal relationships of building architecture, nowadays this could be used to measure out and attempt to create harmony in paintings and drawings.

What is a tangible element of design and how does it differ from a conditional one?

The tangible element is about the very foundation of the design (it's physical form), the foundation of the design is mad up of it's shape, space, line, texture and the type of design implemented. Conditional Elements (such as Colour, Value, Size and Volume) can only exist if the tangible element (the design's physical foundation) is established. For example, you cannot add colour to your design if the physical (or visual) foundation doesn't exist.

Daily Summary for 08/02/2011

Greetings visitor

Please have a read of my first official post on my blog for Cert IV Graphics Design throughout 2011

Today I'm explaining a brief summary of what was done for Tuesday 8th February 2011.

I was assigned to a group with Katelyn Hague and Luke Monaghan and we had to come up with the following concepts:

- Beer for Women
- Men's Hair Removal

With these ideas given to us, we had to come up with some rough ideas as well as sketches on the following:

- Name of the Product (this being in the form of a Logo)
- Product Itself (Sketches)
- Magazine Ad (in A4 Form)

After an hour or two of going through some rough ideas, we felt confident that we came up with some pretty good ideas. Now I have to go through some of the notes in regards to elements of design.

The Revival of Drakie's Den for 2011

Wow, who would of thought I use this again! The last time I've used this is four years ago from now, anyway time to blow off four years of cobwebs that were building up on this site and start blogging for 2011
